| A. | Yes, the LCWC has a library where learning materials such as workbooks can be checked out by tutors and students free of charge. |
| Q. | How often and for how long should students and tutors meet? |
| A. | Students and tutors meet at least twice weekly for approximately 1 to 1 1/2 hours each time. Lessons should be separated by at least one day. |
| Q. | How long of a commitment do tutors have to make? |
| A. | We ask that tutors be willing to commit a minimum of 6 months to tutoring. |
| Q. | How much do students have to pay for tutoring? |
| A. | The tutoring services are provided free of charge. |
| Q. | How much does it cost for the training workshop? |
| A. | Workshops cost $35. This fee is to cover the books and worksheets the tutors receive. The $35 non-refundable fee is standard for individual volunteers who plan to tutor an LCWC client. There is a $250 fee for individuals who are interested in the workshop, but will not be tutoring LCWC clients. |
| Q. | How do new students sign up for tutoring? |
| A. | We ask that new students (basic literacy or ESL) begin by scheduling an interview with our staff. During the interview, we learn about the student and identify his or her needs. This enables us to properly match new students with tutors as well as determine the students entry level. |
| Q. | Do I need to know another language to provide ESL tutoring? |
| A. | No, you are not required to know another language to provide ESL tutoring. All tutoring sessions take place in English. |
